Obituary

Leon Cornelius Abrams, Sr., 80, of Richmond, Virginia, entered eternal rest on August 1, 2026. Born on November 7, 1945, in Ashland, Virginia, Leon was the son of Howard Abrams, Sr. and Channie J. Abrams. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edmund B. Abrams, and his son-in-law, Thomas C. Henderson.

Leon’s faith journey began early at Providence Baptist Church, where he remained a committed member throughout his life. He attended Hanover County Public Schools and graduated from John M. Gandy High School in 1963.

Leon proudly served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968 as a Specialist and Sharpshooter. His dedication earned him the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal.

Professionally, Leon worked as a driver for 7Up and later Van Go, but many in Richmond remember Leon and his wife, Rose, for their unforgettable DJ partnership. From the late 1970s through the early 1990s, “The Maestro and The Duchess” brought music, joy, and celebration to countless events across the city. Following retirement, Leon established and operated a successful lawn care business serving Richmond and nearby counties.

Leon loved westerns, sports, and cheering on his Dallas Cowboys. He was a man of quiet strength, humor, and deep devotion to his family.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years, Rose W. Abrams; daughters Barbara S. McLaughlin and Loretha

A. Henderson; sons Leon C. Abrams, Jr. (Tia) and Ma’Quan T. Wood; granddaughter Tiffany S. Abrams; grandson Robert N. J. Anderson, Jr.; great-granddaughter’s Keona S. Brunson and ZaNiya L. Abrams; brother Howard Abrams, Jr. (Peggy); and a loving circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends, including Stanley Abrams, John Mines, and Jeffrey Walker.
