Leroy "Eddie"
Mines
September 11, 1940 – September 2, 2022
Leroy "Eddie" Mines
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way, though he may fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord upholds him with His hand. (Psalm 37:23 – 24)
Eddie was born on September 11, 1940, to the late Alexander and Lauretta Brown Mines. From that union, 11 children were born, with Eddie being the youngest. He was preceded in death by all of his siblings: Walter, Mearl, Junius, Newell, Sarah, William, Lorenzo, Elbert, Ann and Douglas.
Eddie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at his beloved Ebenezer Baptist Church where he faithfully worshipped. He attended Hanover Public Schools. In his earlier years, he worked various jobs as an auto mechanic. He loved working on cars and rebuilt transmissions for many. After 28 years, he retired from Supervalu, formerly known as Richfood, in 2002. After retirement, he worked as a custodian for Hanover County Public Schools and retired in 2017. He returned to work on an on-call basis for them until his illness.
Eddie was a dedicated husband, loving father, proud grandfather and selfless friend. He loved family. Always in motion, he would give you the first of his last and would do anything for anybody at any time. He loved to laugh and dance. Eddie would tell the same memory or joke many times over, while laughing and crying. Strangers became friends in minutes without hesitation. His smile was warm and genuine. His hands were made rough from work, but his heart was soft and pure.
On September 2, 2022, surrounded by family, he quietly and peacefully slipped into eternal rest. He was preceded in death by his adored son, Dwayne. He has left to mourn his loss, to honor and to cherish his memory: his wife, Barbara, daughters, Sandy King (Tracy) and Angela Shelton, grandchildren, Chelsea and Courtney Shelton, Corey and Nicholas King, devoted nephew, James "Whistle Pete" Mines, devoted cousins, Joseph "Joe" Mines and Ricki King, other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who are too numerous to mention by name.
