Obituary

Surrounded by his family, Lorenza Derricott, Sr. (George Becker) slipped away peacefully at this home on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.

Born June 17, 1952, to the late Clarence and Iretha Derricott, he was the 5th oldest of 12 children. He attended the John M. Gandy School and graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1972.

He was joined in matrimony to Sandra Minor on September 30, 1973, and from that union two children were born. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren. A devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend.

A man of many talents, he was employed with Randolph Macon College until his accident. He was a jack of all trades, if you needed something fixed, built or pulled apart Lorenza was the one to call. He loved to hunt and fish. He was a huge fan of the Washington Redskins/Commander football team and would get defensive if you said anything about their losing streak.

At an early age he joined Jerusalem Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Shemika, his grandson and his brothers Danny, Wilbur, Melvin and Jimmy.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted and loving wife of 51 years Sandra Derricott, son Lorenza, Jr., two grandchildren Braelyn and Jaxon Leap; two sisters Symeanar and Brenda (Everette); five brothers Lloyd (Vita), Curtis (Ruby), Gearld, Dennis (Susan), Donald (Adrienne); two aunts Laura Johnson and Patricia Cary; two brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law; three devoted friends Delroy Johnson, Sam Griggs and Robert Johnson; a host of nieces, nephews and friends including the Hunting Club.
