Obituary

LouEthel T. Johnson entered her heavenly home on November 3, 2023, at VCU Health System in Richmond, Virginia. She was born to Mary Louise Price and Reluis Harris in Dawn, Virginia on December 22, 1946. Her late aunt, Dorothy Tillman played a key role in raising her from a small child. LouEthel often spoke about how Dorothy and her late son, the Reverend Earl Tillman who was like a brother to her, influenced her strong Christian faith from a very young age.

LouEthel accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age joining Second Mount Zion Baptist Church where she served as the president of the Junior Missionaries and treasurer of the Senior Missionary Circle. In addition, she assisted the Hospitality Committee and was a Sunday School Teacher for some time.

She attended Old Dawn School and Union High School before starting her career at Friedman Mark and Nabisco. LouEthel retired from Nabisco in June 2008 after 32 years. She then became the manager at Jacee, Inc. and was proud to have received her state certification in becoming a medication aide. Serving in the capacity of providing care for mentally impaired individuals, her tenure at Jacee, Inc. was from 2009 to 2023. Because she was so fond of the residents there, she always called them "her boys" and cared for them as if they were family.

LouEthel enjoyed cooking, cleaning, reading, babysitting her great-grandchildren, and traveling to places like Jamaica, and cruising the Caribbean. Her love for God and books led her to open the Agape Christian Bookstore in Ashland, Virginia which was open for a short time before closing. In addition to serving her community, church family, and caring for grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, LouEthel regularly provided donations to various organizations and missionaries to help the sick, poor, and undeserved all over the world.

LouEthel looked forward to preparing meals for her mother, Mary and other relatives on Sundays and Thursdays where she would tell many stories about life, the Bible, and the family history. While eating and fellowshipping with family and friends at her mother's house, she would sit in her favorite chair and sip from her favorite cup. In fact, everyone knew that if Aunt Ethel was there, you were forbidden from sitting in that chair or drinking from her cup.

LouEthel was preceded in death by her stepfather, Richard H. Price, brothers Stewart Tillman, Curtis Roots, Reverend Earl Tillman, a nurturing aunt, Dorothy Tillman, a sister, Martha Glenn, and a devoted former daughter-in-law, Angela R. Johnson.

She leaves to cherish her memories that will enrich them forever, a loving and devoted son, Welford C. Johnson (daughter in-law Paula); five grandchildren, Kanecia Morgan, Kiersten Cavanaugh (Adrian), Kelsey Johnson, Kevin Johnson, and Kameron Johnson; seven great-grandchildren, Keenan "Kyrell," Kayla, Brianna, Ian, A.J., Niko, and Jax, and a set of twins on the way; siblings, Walter Price, Richard Tillman (Norma), Clarissa Johnson, Eva Johnson, Cherlon Jones, Rodney Harris, and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
