Hunter
August 7, 1927 – May 15, 2026
On Friday, May 15, 2026, Lucille Adell Hunter, a resident at Woodbine Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Alexandria, Virginia, departed this life and transitioned to her heavenly home. She was 98 years old.
Lucille was born in Caroline County, Virginia on August 7, 1927, to the late Robert Henry Hunter and Susie Ann Hunter. Lucille was raised by God-fearing loving parents and attended Old Dawn #4 School in Dawn, Virginia. She was the 6th of 8 children, all of whom preceded her in death (Arlene, Noah, Matthew, Philip, Georgia, Quetta and Eddie Bray). She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Claire Anita Hunter and her great-grandson, Brandon Johnson.
At an early age, Lucille dedicated her life to the Lord and joined Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. W.H. Washington. She was a faithful member and as her faith in Christ grew, so did her love for God. To pursue career opportunities for a better life, Lucille moved to Alexandria, Virginia. In keeping with God's commandment to worship Him in spirit and truth, Lucille attended and supported Shiloh Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia. There she continued her Christian walk serving the Lord and giving Him the glory.
Lucille was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, aunt and cousin. She was a woman of God who had a quiet and humble spirit which is precious in the eyes of God. She did not mind praising God and witnessing to others of God's goodness in her life. Lucille lived a full life and leaves a legacy of faith, love and family. Her favorite scripture was the 23rd Psalm, "The Lord is my Shepherd".
She leaves cherished memories to her devoted grandson, Donavan Hunter, whom she adored and loved from birth and raised as her son; two daughters, Dale Williams (Timothy) of Alexandria, Virginia, and Susie Johnson (Robert) of King William, Virginia; three grandchildren, Aretha Johnson, Cynitha Washington (Larry) and Deacon Robert Johnson (Deaconess Sharonda); four great-grandchildren, Ashley Johnson, Chaun Clay, Jada Jones and Jazmine Davis; six great-great-grandchildren, Jamar Eubank, Rashard Johnson, Chanel Jones, Heaven Philips, Skylar and Ava Smith; a devoted niece, Aretha Fields; a devoted cousin, Eloise Romaine; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and other loving relatives and friends.
