Mabel E. Anderson was born in Hanover County on May 23, 1923, to the late Henry W. Dabney and Estelle Grimes. At an early age she accepted Christ as her personal savior and joined Shiloh Baptist Church in Ashland, VA. She was educated at Van De Vyder School in Richmond, VA. She met and married Gordon C. Anderson Sr. and from that union six children were born- three sons and three daughters. For many years "Mama Mabel", as she was affectionately known, worked side-by-side with her sister, the late Salada D. McCarthy, in many capacities. One of her favorite things to do was assisting her with wedding coordination and decorating. She enjoyed traveling, fishing, working in her yard and cooking special meals for her family. She was a faithful and dedicated member of her church. During her many years of service she received special recognition for her work with the Hospitality Committee, the Willing Workers Ministry and for her support of the Sunday School. Preceded in death by her husband and her son Carlton L. Anderson, she leaves to cherish her memory devoted daughters, Connie Quash (Stanley), Mable Patricia and Celestine Anderson; devoted sons Gordon C. Anderson, Jr. (Annette) and James Barry Anderson (Daphne); five grandchildren- Lisa Jones, Dana Anderson-Radcliffe, Stanley Quash II, and Marcus and Jaime Anderson; one great-granddaughter Sydney Jones; four step-grandchildren - Tikeisha, Dewanna, and Shelnika Jones and Stanley Lomax; two sisters-in-law- Helen Pleasants and Henrietta Dabney; special family and friends- Nardra Goodall, Anna Shelton and Clara Taliferro; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
