Obituary

After a courageous struggle, God, in his infinite wisdom, gently closed the eyes of our dear Madeline, on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

Madeline Saundra Quash, a lifelong resident of Caroline County, was born June 4, 1937. She was the fifth oldest of seven children of the late Jennie J. and Moses Quash. Her three brothers Russell, Carl, Robert and niece, Lisa Quash, preceded her in death.

Madeline attended Caroline County Public Schools and graduated from Union High School in 1955. In September of 1958, she received her diploma from the Apex College of Beauty, Culture and Hairdressing. Soon after, she opened her own shop in her home. Many of you may also remember her warm and friendly personality from behind the counter at Dyson's General Store.

In 1966, Madeline started her career with Caroline Public Schools as an Elementary School Instructional Assistant. She was recognized by the Department of Education for her commitment and dedication to the Chapter 1 Program since its inception in 1966. In 2002, she retired after serving students of Caroline County for thirty-six years.

In September of 1975, Madeline officially became a member of Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church when she was baptized. She was a faithful attendee of Sunday School and a member of the Little Light Society. "Mat," as she was affectionally called was a kind, friendly, loving sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She loved word puzzles, computer games, playing scrabble, and was a dedicated Jeopardy fan.

Madeline leaves to mourn her departure, three sisters Marian Quash, Arletha Rucker, Viola Abbott; one sister-in-law Shelah Quash; one niece, S. Michele Rucker; four nephews, Sherman A. Rucker, Jr. (Jennifer), Russell D. Quash, Marc L. Abbott (Benereia), Carl E.Q. Abbott (Chandra); great nieces, Morgan T. Fitzpatrick, Cosette M. Abbott, Harper N. Abbott; great nephews, Marcus Quash, Hamilton N. Abbott; other relatives and friends; among them devoted cousin Carol Y. Keel.
