Margaret James
Fox
May 30, 1926 – August 14, 2022
Deaconess Margaret James Fox entered peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, August 14, 2022.
Margaret was born to the late Deacon John Henry James and Deaconess Reavie Farmer James on May 30, 1926. She was educated in Hanover County public schools. In 1943, she married her childhood sweetheart, the late Deacon Phillip Fox, Sr. Their union was blessed with eleven children.
Margaret accepted Christ and was baptized at The Greater Nazarene Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Reverend Elijah Hill. She was active with the adult usher board, she prepared food for homecoming services, she labored many hours to assist with the maintenance and beautification of the Church, and served faithfully along side her husband as Deaconess until their declining health. Deaconess Fox always worked to advance the Kingdom of God.
Her true ministry was hospitality, as her passion was cooking and serving meals to others. Sunday dinners were extra special, as we could always count on her famous "homemade rolls." She expected and enjoyed visitors stopping by to fellowship and enjoy a meal after Church Service. No matter how many visitors or family members stopped by, or how full the house was, there always seemed to be enough food for everyone.
With declining health and less mobility, Deaconess Fox enjoyed hours of putting together puzzles and word search in her many booklets, even using the iPad a few times. God blessed her to live to be the age of 96. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Phillip; mother and father, John and Reavie James; three brothers, Gwathney, Jessie, and John Phillip; one son, Welford; and one daughter, Darshell Miller. Her aunts, uncles, and first cousins have also gone before her.
Deaconess Fox was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great great-grandmother. She leaves to cherish her memory nine children; Phillip, Jr. (Patty), Kermit (Dorothy), Stevenson (Peggy), Lewis, Reavie Anne Harvey (Donald), Linda Brown (Johnnie), Gale King (Wayne), Donald (Rose), and Marvin (Velma); son-in-law, Clawson Miller; 26 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and 12 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She touched the lives of so many. Her warmth and her love will be remembered and greatly missed.
