Obituary

Margaret Allen Harris peacefully entered eternal rest on November 30th, 2020. Margaret was preceded in death by her father, William E. Allen, sister, Linda Allen Harris, brother, William "Bill" Allen, brother Raymond King, daughter-in-law, Catherine Lewis Harris, and sister-in-law, Ethel Harris.

Margaret accepted Christ at an early age where she joined Abner Baptist Church. During this time, she served on various ministries including Chair Person of Hospitality, Secretary of Trustees, Former President of Deaconess Ministry, President of Missionary Ministry, President of the Women's Choir, Director of Vacation Bible School, Director of Youth Ministry, Clerk for Tuckahoe Baptist Association, Registrar for Baptist General Convention, and attended Sunday school and faithfully attended bible study and various other ministries and organizations. Margaret attended John M. Gandy High School. Later she entered the work force in Food Service at the Carousel and Westport Manor. She pursued Cosmetology, and later transitioned into a career in nursing, obtaining a degree in Registered Nursing from J. Sergeant Reynolds Community College, and she was employed by Johnston Willis Hospital and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.  She had an undeniable passion for people and helping everyone.

On December 17 th , 1960, Margaret married her childhood sweetheart and love of her life, Earnest W. Harris Sr. Together they enjoyed traveling with family and friends, going out of town to celebrate anniversaries, spending quality time together at home, and summer vacations with her children and grandchildren. From this sweet union came three children: Earnest Harris Jr., Sharon H. Mason, and Bernita Harris.

With a heart for people, she was known for her candied yams and signature rolls, willingness to lend a helping hand, and serving everyone she encountered. She affectionately loved and cared for her family, especially her mother, husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Deaconess Margaret leaves to cherish her memory a loving family; her Devoted Husband, Deacon Earnest W. Harris Sr., her son Deacon Earnest W. Harris Jr. (Cathy; Deceased), Deacon Sharon H. Mason (Michael), and Ms. Bernita A. Harris. Her Mother, Mary "Susie" Allen; Her grandchildren, Brandon Harris, Lamerro (Heidi) and Michael (Anna) Mason, Jordan, and Kelsey Harris. Great Grandchildren; Sydney, Hunter, Lorenzo, and Cairo Mason, Iyanna Mobley, Shaya, and Jordan Harris Jr. Sisters; Edna (Howard) James, Connie (Howard) Carrington, Willnette (Harold; Deceased) Robertson, and Brother Walter Allen. Brother-in-law, Herbert Harris, Goddaughter, Matieka Harris, Sister-in-laws; Queen (Tony) Dixon, Paulette Harris, Virginia King (Deceased). In addition, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and devoted friends.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Abner Baptist Church.

Due to COVID 19, the funeral service will be private followed by interment at Roselawn Memory Gardens .
