Marian A.
Williams
January 29, 1943 – October 22, 2024
In Loving Memory of Marian A. Williams
Missionary Marian A. Williams departed this life on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at her home at 10:38 a.m. Marian was born on January 29, 1943, in Caroline County, VA to the late Clarence Payton Anderson and Susie Coleman Anderson. She was the last of four children, preceded in death by Ruth Smith, Leon Anderson, and Audrey Green.
On August 31, 1963, she was joined in holy matrimony with the love of his life, Lewis Williams. They were married for 57 years until his death on November 21, 2020. To this union, they were blessed with two children, Mechonda and Torey.
She joined Mangohick Baptist Church at an early age and was an active member. Marian held the position of Secretary of the Missionary group for 37 years, First Seniors and a member of the Senior Choir. She created several different programs at the church as well.
Marian was a diligent worker all of her life. As a young woman she held many different jobs. She graduated from Union High School, Class of 1961 and kept a strong bond and relationship with her classmates until her death.
She started working with Lewis at Duplex Envelope Company as well as M & B Headwear. In 1971, she started her journey with Virginia Commonwealth University. She held the position of Head Desk Clerk until she retired after 42 years. She loved her job and was a Dorm Mom and Mentor to numerous students throughout the years. Marian was responsible for three dormitories during this time which include Johnson Hall, Cabinas and Rhodes Hall. Through this role she became a 2nd Mom to many of the students and still retained those relationships with them until her passing.
She was a caretaker of others and was always willing to listen and provide guidance. She loved to dress up and attend events and her favorite colors were red and gold. Marian never met a stranger, and her door was always open to others. She loved going to the beach and traveling as a passenger to the mountains and valleys and anywhere the road would take her. She often visited her sister/cousin, Carmen Fauntroy along with Barbara Rock. They were inseparable and closer than the 3 Musketeers. They took numerous trips to the mountains, Williamsburg, the Beach and Detroit.
Marian visited with family and friends often, until her health failed. She would do anything to help others and believed in giving people their flowers now. She was affectionately known by many names such as Weasy, Annie Mae, Momma Susie, Godmother, 2nd Mom and Marian Brown. She believed and demonstrated the adage of treating others as you want to be treated. Her life was an example of a virtuous woman.
Marian was blessed to have two natural children, but she gained many other children that she took under her wings to protect, teach, nurture and guide. Everyone loved her and she was a true example of what a Christian should be.
Marian leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Mechonda L. Williams-Saunders, Torey Williams, Sr.; seven grandchildren, Torey M. Williams Jr., Thomas P. Williams-Lucas, Jordyn G. Williams, Joshua Robinson, Gary L. Gray Jr. Sydney and Hailey Bowler.
