Obituary

On Tuesday December 1 st , 2020 Mrs. Mary Catherine Anderson Mines peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord at the age of 76, in the comfort of her home with her family by her side. Mary was born July 16 th , 1944 in Hanover County, to the late John Samuel and Mary Lou Anderson.

She accepted Christ and joined the Jerusalem Baptist Church at an early age. She was a faithful member and attended church service every Sunday until her health began to fail. While at Jerusalem she served as a member of the Senior Missionary Committee and a member of the Sunday School program. Not only was she an active member of Jerusalem Baptist Church but she was also a member of the Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church Rock of Ages and Bible Study Classes. She knew the Lord and read her Bible and Daily Bread faithfully every day.

She was educated in the Hanover County Public School System. Mary was a chicken-line girl for over 40+ years with Holly Farm (Tyson Food) from where she retired in 2003. She loved her job and her co-workers. To know Mary was to love Mary.  She had a heart of gold and would give you her last.

Mary had a love for her TV and the telephone. She loved to watch her day-time stories, "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy" daily. Mary loved to watch sports also, whether it was football, baseball, or basketball. Her favorite team was The Washington Redskins, Boston Red Sox and Lebron James and any team he played for. She enjoyed talking on the phone to her loved ones, especially her Gum Tree Family. She was also a part of the Right-On Social Club.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life Australia "Slick" Mines. She leaves to cherish her affectionate memories one loving and devoted daughter Valerie Alease Few. Three loving grandchildren Gayron, Catherine (lala) and Brittaney Few. Her five Great-Grandchildren who gave her the nickname of "Momma C", Gabrielle, London, Gayron, Blessn', and Ryan Few; sisters Thelma (Wortham) Smithers, Deaconess Marion Harris and Garnetta Lucas; brothers Melvin (Evelyn), John (Gloria) and Ernest (Cleo) Anderson; devoted Aunt Ms. Celestine Mickens; devoted sisters-in-law Viola (Charlie) Ross and Hazel Mines; 10 nieces, among them four devoted, Velma, Diana, Ruth, and Anita; nine nephews and a host of other great-nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
