Obituary

OBITUARY Mary Eliza Trueheart departed this life at the age of 86 on January 24, 2015. She was the 7th child born to the late Isaiah and Ida Thornton. Mary attended the King William Public School system and was employed as a high school bus driver. She also worked for many years as a private duty nurse. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She joined Oak Grove Baptist Church in King William County where she served faithfully for many years. She later joined the fellowship at the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Glen Allen, VA. and served as a Deaconess, a member of the Senior Choir and the Senior ministry. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #79 where she served as the past matron and received many honors. Mary met and married Alfonza Trueheart; to this union four daughters were born. She was preceded in death by her husband and oldest daughter, Ida Loretta Washington. Mary was the family matriarch who had a zest for life and loved family and friends. She was always willing to lend a "helping hand". She had a passion for cooking for her family and friends. Her home was truly an atmosphere filled with love and laughter. She leaves to cherish her memories: one son Rev. Herman Trueheart (Helen); four daughters, Bernice Thornton, Rose Moore, Janet Royal and Jane Holmes; one son-in-law John Washington; three cherished like daughters, Margaret Gayles (Willie), Helen Harris (George) and Brenda Temple; two brothers, James and Douglas Thornton; two sisters Shirley Spurlock and Ophelia Thornton; eight grandchildren, Wilbur Trueheart, Michelle Trueheart, Kevin Thornton, Chawn Washington, Chawnette Boyd, DeWayne Holmes, Tyrese Holmes (Marie), and LaQuan Sims (Donnell); eighteen great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law Rev. Gregory Trueheart and Jesse Brooks, Sr.; two devoted nieces Dorothy and Helen Trueheart; two devoted friends Deacon James & Margaret Connor and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
