Matthew Scott Temple entered into eternal rest on Monday, January 5, 2026. He was born on February 11, 1968, in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Amos Temple and Orgie Ree Temple. On August 12, 1994, Matthew was united in holy matrimony with Monica Temple, with whom he shared many years of love and devotion.
Matthew was a proud graduate of King William High School, Class of 1987. At an early age, he joined Oak Grove Baptist Church, where his faith was nurtured. He was also a dedicated and long-time employee of Nestlé Purina, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment.
Matthew was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Monica Temple; his parents, Orgie Ree and Amos Temple; his grandparents, Robert and Elizabeth Temple; two sisters, Melody Moore and Mable Washington; one brother, Melvin Temple Sr.; his uncle and aunt, James and Jean Temple; his aunt, Iva Temple; his cousin, Henry Temple Jr.; his nephew, Melvin Temple Jr.; and his mother-in-law, Raedelle Carter.
Matthew was a loving father, proud grandfather, caring brother, uncle, nephew, and friend; roles he carried with love, pride, and purpose. A lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, he also enjoyed watching softball and spending time outdoors. As an avid outdoorsman, Matthew found great joy in hunting, running his dogs, attending field trials, and fishing. He balanced his passions with meaningful time spent with family and friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory three devoted daughters: KaWanda Claggette (Chantz), KaShea Temple, and KaDedra Temple (Elijah). He also leaves one cherished granddaughter, Logan Claggette, affectionately known as Shuggie, whom he adored.
He is survived by his caring sister, Melissa Jackson, and his supportive brother, Mervin Temple (Janet). He also leaves to cherish his memory his nieces Kendra Washington, Niquetra Temple, Alicia Trice, Ebony Carey (Daryl), Samone Temple (Daryl), Sade' Temple, and Aleciya Carter; and nephews Mallory Washington (Dream), Dupree Jackson (Raven), Marcus
Temple (Ashley), Jamar Carter, Devonte Temple (Amber), Cameron Temple (Jasmine), Mervin Temple Jr., and Mitchell Temple, along with a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.
He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Christine D. Carter, and his father-in-law, James Carter Jr.; three beloved brothers-in-law, Lorenzo Washington, Thomas Moore Jr., and Marvin Carter (Alicia); one loving goddaughter, Chanetia Temple-Thornton; and one cherished godson, KenShawn Washington.
Matthew will also be remembered by his close friends: Emmett, Gary, Trey, Henry, Thomas, and Allen, as well as a host of extended relatives and friends.
