Maurice Long, Sr. entered eternal rest, on Thursday, December 13, 2018, at VCU Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his father, William H. Jordan, father in law; Earnest (Wesley) Johnson Sr; mother in law; Addie Harris-Johnson; 2 sisters in law; Judy Johnson-Scott (George) and Dale Johnson and 1 brother in law; Earnest (Joe) Johnson, Jr (Ruby). He was 1 of 4 siblings.
Maurice was born on February 20, 1960 in Aliceville, Alabama. He was educated in the Montgomery County Public School System. Serving his Country for 12 years, SP4 Maurice Long, earned distinguished honors in the United States Army as Tank Gunner, patches and medals for Marksman, Sharp Shooter, as well as Good Conduct. He worked at McGuire Medical Center for many years. He also worked for and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Most recently, Maurice was a Shop Steward (AFGE), volunteering at the Veterans' Association (V.A.), where he would spend countless hours spreading joy and happiness, while supporting his fellow veterans. Maurice was a member of First Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Dawn, Virginia, where he loved to sing in the choir.
Maurice expressed great love and devotion for his wife, children and grandchildren. One of his greatest joys was time spent with family and friends. "Big Sexy", as he affectionately nick-named himself, will be greatly missed by all, near and far. Maurice had a gift of making anyone smile and feel welcomed. He never met a stranger and knew everyone by name. He would always tease, joke and have words to make you laugh or get into a great debate with him. You knew when he was in the room, either by his loud conversation and/or hearty laugh. Maurice met many local government officials and celebrities, such as, Senator Tim Kaine, news icon Shelby Brown and Attorney Joe Morrissey.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his love, heart, soul and inspiration, devoted wife; Addie Johnson-Long, 3 sons; Michael (Reyna), Maurice and Matthew Long, 1 daughter; Terri Long, mother; Nannie M. Long- Jordan, 2 brothers; Donald Jordan (Helen) and Michael Long (Wanda), 1 sister; Kimberly Jordan; 8 grandchildren; Jamonte, Erika, Anauri, Mekhi, Maximus, Alessandra, Ariayn, and Josiah, 2 sisters in law; Betty Morris (MacArthur) and Paulette Johnson, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
