Obituary

M.Sgt. Julies O. Edmond, of Glen Allen, Virginia, peacefully died on Friday, November 17, 2023, at the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Medical Center Hospital after a long battle with Sarcoidosis.  Although he was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1949 to Theodore "Dick" Edmond and Emma Edmond, his formative years were spent in Tillery, North Carolina with both his maternal and paternal family.

Julies (pronounced Julius) attended Ralph S. Bunch High School. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force, where he achieved the rank of master sergeant before retiring after twenty years of service. He also worked for the Virginia Department of Transportation until his health problems. He was an outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, motorcycling, and classic car restoration.

He is preceded in death by his father, Theodore, brother Johnny Jones and sister Diahann Edmond-Shirvington. He is survived by his mother, Emma, wife of nearly 50 years, Helen Dyer Edmond; children: Lesley M. Edmond, Jeannette L. Edmond, Julius Edmond; and grandchildren, Moia Edmond, Reginald Izlar, Jr. and Sophia Edmond. Additionally, he is survived by his siblings, Theodore "Donald" Edmond (Evelyn), Annette Thomas, Bettina Tharps, Carelen Holloway, and Melissa Brown, as well as his maternal Lewis cousins he grew up with.

Per his wishes, there will be a celebration of him in the New Year where friends and family can remember him.

Donations to the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research in his name are appreciated instead of flowers.
