Obituary

Nadine Sandra Braxton was born October 11, 1956, to Jessie Mae Frazier-Gilliens and Willie Gilliens in Manhattan, New York where she was raised with her many siblings until the age of 17, where she then moved to Virginia with her father and mother Irene Mae Gilliens. She slipped quietly into peace on March 11, 2026.

Nadine spent 27 years of her life working in the hospitality industry, where she met some of her closest friends. She was also her own bookkeeper and kept her calendars full of birthdays, along with handwritten phone numbers in her book.

Nadine met and courted Calvin Braxton for 28 years before tying the knot in August of 2014, where they lived happily married until his passing on her birthday in 2018.

Nadine was known by her friends, family and throughout the community for having some of the best meatloaf, mac and cheese and some of the craziest sayings. If you knew Nadine, then you knew that she was 7x3 and then some and if you didn't know that then you were an "idiot" in her words. Nadine welcomed family, friends, and anyone who she'd first meet with open arms, whether it was a slap, punch, or a good cursing. If you received any of those things then that meant she liked, you. Nadine always had her home open to family and friends where she raised children, grandchildren, great grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews and whomever else. Nadine enjoyed playing cards, drinking Seagram's and listening to her Oldies but Goodies music.

Nadine was proceeded in death by her parents Jessie Mae Frazier Gilliens and Willie Gilliens (Irene Mae Gilliens). Husband Calvin Braxton, siblings Carolyn Mingo, Tony, John, and Tonya Gilliens, Janine Williams, Lorraine Jackson, Josephine Anderson, Carter Waller, Elwood Waller and Bessie Mines.

Nadine is survived by her children, Shauna Gilliens, Robert Gilliens (Tameca) , Ericka Glasco (Anderson), Shera Glasco, Calvin Braxton (Marcia), Kimberly Johnson, Thomas Johnson, Keisha Johnson, and daughter in love Nicole Hess. First child raised Irene Houchens, Grand children: Jaylean, Dizindre, Raequan, Shauntice Gilliens, Roger Jackson Jr, A'gentre and Serenity Lesley, Aniya and Imani Gilliens, NaShaun Glasco (Cecilia), Queshawn Glasco, Aaron Chandler, Destiny and Cherish Hunt, Aeylla Dabney, Kyana Braxton, Jordan Watson, Kamia and Kelijah Johnson, Cleante Woolfolk, Jaiden, Royal and Thomas Johnson Jr., grandson in love Dustin Hess. God children Bertha Oxendine and Chase Young.

Great grandchildren: Ayla Gilliens, Landen and Londyn Jackson, Kennedi Morris, Summer Lesley, Rosalinda and NaShawn Glasco Jr., Mahagoni Smith, Autumn Dabney-Harris.

Her spirit will live on in every shared story, every echo of laughter, and every act of love inspired by her example. We will forever carry her in our hearts.
