Obituary

Naneaster Florine Hall (lovingly known as "Nan") by family and friends was called to eternal rest with our Heavenly Father on Friday, May 31, 2024.

Born on September 7, 1955, in Ashland, VA, she was second of two children born to the late Melvin Roy Hall, Jr. and Florine Rosetta Hughes Hall. In addition, to her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, Easter Thompson Hall and Melvin Roy Hall, Sr.; Alcide Dealee Hughes and Nannie B. Winston Hughes; aunts, Hattie H. Alexander (Rev. Lorenzo, Sr), Nannie H. Redding; uncles, Charles E. and Franklin E. Hughes; and cousins Harry Gash, Jr., Lorenzo Alexander, Jr.

Nan was raised in a Christian home where she was taught the importance of living a life of integrity, strong character and excellence. She lived her life dedicated to God's purposes and devoted herself faithfully and wholeheartedly to serving her Savior. She and her father would attend worship services together regularly at Shiloh Baptist Church, Ashland until her health declined.

Nan attended schools in Ashland, Virginia graduating from Patrick Henry High School (1973). She furthered her education graduating from Howard University (1977) and Howard University School of Law. Upon graduating from law school, Nan moved to New York, passed the New York State bar exam, and practiced law in New York city for 15 years for Figgie International, Inc. She later moved to northern Virginia where she worked as a Contracts Administrator for several large defense contractors.

She was always musically inclined and loved playing the harp. With her general and spiritual life experience accruing, she cemented her gifting as a writer, becoming an author to "How to Read Musical Notes with the Harmony harp Notebook" (eBook published 2017). Nan also published multiple MP3 Music Albums (Affirmations For Happiness, Peaceful Solitude, Sleep in Harmony With the Universe, Meditation for a Cure, Nam Myoho Renge Kyo). All can be found on Amazon.

When Nan turned 60, she was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease, polymyositis that ultimately resulted in her becoming disabled. The disease rendered her wheelchair bound. Amid all that she endured she made space for her personal pursuits, interests and enjoyment. It was during her illness that she penned a self- published memoir of her life living with polymyositis. To know Nan is to love her.

Nan is survived by many dear friends and relatives in New York, Tennessee, and Virginia. She has left an indelible impact to be remembered by her brother, Melvin R. Hall, III (Cynthia); two nephews, Melvin R. Hall, IV; Mark B. Hall (Daniella); and niece, Megan Poonolly (Sunil);  great nephews and nieces, Santiago Hall, Octavia Hall, Semani Poonolly, Sunil Poonolly, and Samuel  Poonolly; cousins and their respective families, Anna Maria Hughes Johnson (Charles, Sr.), Santresda Johnson, Charles (CK) Johnson, Jr.; Frankie Dianne Hughes, Robbie Hughes Carey, Franklin Hughes Carey, Linda Morris Avila (Edgar), Rev. Brenda Hall Ware, Willa Martin,  Gwendolyn Martin Washington, Wyndolyn Hall, Rev. Selma Hall (Beulah), Verna Hall (Kathy), Terry Gash and a host of other family and friends.

"On May 31, 2024, close to midnight, an angel living among us had her wish granted. She received her wings and transitioned to her heavenly home. Her physical absence leaves a void, for which we now grieve. However, we will hold warm memories of Naneaster in our hearts forever."
