Obituary

Nelson Clinton Goodall, affectionately known as "Chuck," passed away suddenly on April 30, 2025. He was born on June 14, 1948, to the late Magnolia and Charles Goodall, and was preceded in death by his beloved son, Ryvel Thomas.

Chuck accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Dawn, Virginia. A man of integrity and dedication, he worked faithfully for RF&P (CSX) Railroad, retiring after 31 years of service. Even after retirement, Chuck remained active, later working for many years at the Best Western Hotel in Doswell, Virginia.

Chuck was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He deeply loved and admired his children and grandchildren, and his pride in them was evident to all who knew him. He embraced life with joy, energy, and a contagious spirit. A man of the outdoors, Chuck had a deep passion for yardwork. He took great pride in beautifying his lawn—planting flowers, shrubs, and trees, and keeping his yard perfectly manicured.

In his younger years, Chuck was an avid hunter and a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan. He enjoyed the soothing rhythm of Oldies but Goodies music, and found peace relaxing under his favorite tree, spending cherished moments with close family and friends. Known for his warm sense of humor, Chuck brought laughter and light into every room. He loved hosting family gatherings and took great delight in preparing cookouts, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.

Chuck leaves behind a legacy of love and strength to be honored by his devoted wife, Oraine Goodall, and his six beloved children: Shirrell Carter, Emmett Morgan, Hope Morgan, Shondelle (Marvin) Anderson, Corwin Goodall, and Christa Goodall. He also leaves ten grandchildren: Kanecia, Anetra, Trey Morgan, Shatia Anderson, Diamond Foster, Lamar Allen, Travon Thomas, Jamesha Johnson, Jakyla Johnson, and Sara Goodall; thirteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Smithers and Gloria Anderson; one loving aunt, Eloise Romaine; three sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Chuck cherished ALL of his relatives with unwavering and unconditional love. Among family, he was known as the Patriarch, a title he carried with honor and humility. His presence and legacy will always be treasured by his devoted cousins and neighbors: Moses, Sheverne, and Lonza "T-Bird" Tillman. Chuck will be deeply missed by all.
