Nettie Gertrude
Mines Green
June 12, 1929 – March 23, 2024
On Saturday, March 23, 2024, God called Nettie Gertrude Mines Green to her heavenly home. She was born on June 12, 1929, in Caroline County, Virginia to the late Coss Garnett and Isabel Mines. Nettie grew up in Dawn, Virginia and graduated from Union High School. She began employment as a domestic worker, a position she held for several years. She later worked at National Linen in Richmond, Virginia and retired after many years of service. After retiring from National Linen, Nettie was employed by Kings Dominion for several years.
Nettie accepted Christ as her Savior and joined Second Mount Zion Baptist Church at a young age. She was one of the original members of the Victoria Memorial Choir. She enjoyed singing and joyfully participated in church and choir activities. She was also a member of the Missionary Circle. Nettie attended church regularly until her health declined. She loved reading the Bible and the Daily Bread. During the last few weeks of her life, Nettie prayed constantly and praised the Lord for His blessings over the years.
Nettie loved her family, and she was a kind and devoted mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and cousin. She was always willing to do whatever she could to help her family and friends. She will be fondly remembered for providing motherly advice and admonishments to her nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Nettie was predeceased by two brothers, two sisters and her grandson, Ketron Green. She is survived by her loving daughters, Verjenia Green and Jennifer Hunter (Keith); a nephew and niece she treated as her son and daughter, Ricky Hunter (Margiette Tillman) and Sandra Morris (Quincy); grandsons, Jason James and Juston James (Vosha); five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; two stepchildren, Robert Green, Jr. (Iris) and Towanda Wilson; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including Mary Price, Dorothy Toliver, Harriett Harris and Eloise Romaine .
