Mrs. Ophelia Holmes Hill was born on January 12, 1933 in King
William, VA to the late Roosevelt Alonzo Holmes and Elizabeth Banks
Holmes. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ called her home in the early
morning on July 5, 2017 with her son Wayne, daughter Veronica, and
grandchildren Dewayne and Tranelle by her side.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Joyce Holmes Harrington,
husband, Kermit Hill, Jr., sisters Lillian Holmes Jefferson, Sylvia Holmes
Moore, and Ruby Holmes Anderson, and nephews Jesse Jefferson and
Ray Jefferson.
Ophelia maintained a personal relationship with God throughout her life
and in October of 2005 she reconnected with Mangohick Baptist Church.
Ophelia worked hard to provide for her family and spent many of her
years caring for others. She was known for her sense of humor and her
good food. Some of the dishes her grandchildren enjoyed the most were
her corn pudding, potato salad, and sweet potato pies.
Ophelia leaves to cherish her precious memories, three sons; Wayne
Roger Holmes, Carlton Sylvester Holmes, I (Ellen) and George Elvis
Holmes, Sr. (Darlene), two daughters Saundra Holmes Dandridge, and
Veronica Holmes Pollard (John) who was also her devoted caregiver; 24
grandchildren: Shellery Tyler (Mark), Carl Twisdale (Raina), Mia
Cabiness-Frausto (Jason), DeWayne Holmes, Tyrese Holmes (Marie),
LaQuan Sims (Donnell), George Holmes, Jr. (Joy), Shameka Pollard,
Russell Dandridge, Jr., Serena Twine (Quinton), Tranelle Pollard,
LaTesha Bowers (Travis), Jeremy Holmes (Crystal), Jonisha Pollard,
Karla Lewis, Rebecca Harrington, William Harrington, Jr., Phillip
Harrington, Courtney Holmes, Taylor Holmes, Carrynton Holmes, Wayne
Holmes-Gresham, Trevin Holmes-Gresham, Carlton Holmes, II; 35 great
grandchildren, who she affectionately called her "Angels", and one great-
great grandchild; one brother, Ellis P. Banks, two brothers-in-law Russell
