Ora Lee Holliday Washington received a whisper in her ear that God wanted her to come home. Ora answered and said I am ready and passed peacefully Friday, June 14, 2024. She was born on June 7, 1933, to the late Lawrence and Florine Holliday. She was proceeded in death by her husband William Washington, siblings Rosa, Ora Bell, Simon, Henry, Nathaniel Sr. and Norene.
Her early education journey started in Bennettsville, South Carolina. Ora graduated from Armstrong High School in Richmond, VA, She continued her education by earning a Bachelor's in Education from Virginia Union University, Master's in Education from Columbia University in New York City, Doctorate in Education from the University of Nigeria in Africa and finishing her education with a Doctorate in Missiology from New Hope Bible Crusade College and Seminary. She retired from Richmond Public Schools. Ora was a proud member of the Alpha Zeta Chapter of the National Sorority Phi Delta Kappa and a member of Phi Lambda Theta, one of the nation's most prestigious education honor societies.
She was a faithful and dedicated member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Beaverdam, Virginia until her health declined. She served in various ministries such as the Deacons Ministry, Missionary Ministries, and Sunday School teacher.
She was a member of Richmond Henrico Retired Teacher Association where she served as Vice President. Ora was the family historian and loved to share her stories at all the family reunions.
She loved listening to music such as hymns, gospels and the blues. She leaves a host of nephews, nieces and especially her devoted nephew Nathaniel Holliday Jr. (DeBora), as well as her friends and family at Ebenezer Baptist Church. She will truly be missed.
