God has called Otis Gerald Coles - our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend - from labor to reward in His infinite wisdom. Otis was born in Hanover, Virginia on March 26, 1949, to the late Deacon James Henry and Rebecca Frances Coles. He departed at his residence in Montpelier, Virginia on November 10, 2023, at the age of 74.

Otis attended the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church at an early age, thanks to his parents' guidance and devotion to the Lord. He attended Hanover County Public Schools and later joined the United States Army.

Otis was a skilled handyman who could repair almost anything around the house. He had a passion for cars, loved playing horseshoes, and was known for sharing his witty words of wisdom with everyone he met. Otis also had a love for math that allowed him to serve as a local tax preparer for many people in his community.

Otis was preceded in death by his sister Roberta Lopez, his brothers Stuart Alphonso Coles, and Rev. James Leo Coles, and his nephew Roger Coles.

Otis leaves wonderful memories for his loving and devoted children, Michelle and DeJuan Coles; five grandchildren Te'Mari Smith, Sequan Smith, Tashyra Coles, Deyuana Coles, and Chase Corey; three great-grandchildren: Messiah Smith, James Smith, and Malani Plecker. He also leaves behind a loving sister Barbara Houchens; brother Alvin Coles; sister-in- law Delois Coles; devoted nephew Stuart A. Coles Jr.; two devoted nieces Katrina Gail Hendrick and Tammy D. Coles; special friend Sandra Rowell, nieces, nephews, a host of cousins, and friends.
