Praise Rejoice
Derricott
February 20, 1999 – April 7, 2026
Praise Rejoice Derricott, 27, of Ashland, Virginia, departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
She was born on February 20, 1999, in Richmond, Virginia, to William L. Derricott, Jr. and Lakeysia D. Derricott.
She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, William L. Derricott, Sr., Major L. Hood, and James C. Battle, Sr., and her grandmother, Jacqueline D. Battle.
Praise Rejoice Derricott is survived by her loving parents, William L. Derricott, Jr. and Lakeysia D. Derricott; her grandmother, Lelia Derricott; and her brothers, Honor and Hevin Derricott. She also leaves to cherish her memory her uncle, Darrick H. Hood, Sr.; her aunt, Michelle Derricott-Coleman (Edward); and her cousins, Darrick H. Hood, Jr., Jeremiah Hood, Deja Hood, Jomari Pegram, Destiny Hargrove, Shaquon Jones, Alonzo Derricott, Kiara Derricott, and a devoted cousin, Keyonda Tawiah, along with a host of extended family and friends.
Praise was a living testament to God's miracle-working power. Born prematurely, weighing only 1 pound, 2 ounces, and diagnosed with cerebral palsy, she surpassed every expectation and limitation placed on her life. From predictions that she would not survive even a day to assumptions about her quality of life, Praise persevered and thrived.
She was educated in Hanover County Public Schools and graduated from Atlee High School. During her time there, she participated in the Girl Scouts, was an honorary member of the Atlee Girls Basketball Team, and enjoyed activities such as attending NCAA games, horseback riding, and attending prom.
Praise was known for her effervescent smile and joyful laughter, which could light up any room and serve as a reminder of God's faithfulness to all who encountered her.
She was deeply loved by her late grandmother, Jacqueline D. Battle, who nurtured and cared for her daily, ensuring that Praise was always beautifully dressed and had everything she needed until her own health declined.
Praise's family wishes to recognize the team of professionals and care partners who made a lasting impact on her life, including Children's Hospital of Richmond, VCU Physicians, Blessed Hands and Heart, LLC, Yours Truly, Inc., Brenda Brown, Elder Thomas and Overseer Maria West, Brittany Ricks, and Kim Hardy.
