Ray Roy
Terrell
July 29, 1951 – February 13, 2022
Ray Roy Terrell transitioned from labor to reward with our Heavenly Father on February 13, 2022 at VCU Medical Center. He was born on July 29, 1951 to the late Bernard Terrell and Adell Ross Terrell. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at his father's church, Oxford Mt. Zion Baptist. Later in his adult life, he was reborn and baptized again by the late Bishop Benjamin Lewis at Ebenezer Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Richmond, VA. His Christian journey came full circle, as he returned to Oxford Mt. Zion later in life and remained an active member until his passing. Ray truly believed in the power of prayer and would often join in prayer and services also with his mother's church, Second Baptist in Ruther Glen, VA.
He was educated in Caroline County Public Schools and graduated from Union High School in 1969.
He was joined in holy matrimony to the late Joyce Ann Clarke on February 4 th , 1972. Together, they raised 3 daughters. Ray was a hard-working man that provided well for his family. He started his career as a Heavy Machine Operator in his late teens with Weyerhauser Paper Company and remained until 1979. At that time, he began his employment with Bears Island Paper Company, where he retired with 30 years of service in 2010.
In his spare time, Ray loved working on cars, watching football and hunting. He was one of the original and last living members of the Community Hunt Club. He was very social, greatest joy came in helping others and truly enjoyed being on the go. But there were few things or people that he loved more than the Washington Redskins (currently aka Commanders) and Oxford Mt. Zion-pastor, people and worship.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, Bernard Terrell, Jr. and Franklin Terrell and multiple aunts and uncles.
He leaves to cherish his memories, loving daughters, Yvonne Terrell Akrie and Monica Terrell-Wright, devoted son-in-law, Andre J. Wright, stepdaughter, Tanya Robinson, grandchildren, Charity M. Smith, Kelsey S. Johnson, Alayna D. Akrie, Kiersten B. Wright and Andre X. Wright, three great-grandchildren, Avery, Nasir and Nala, sisters, Sheila M. Ross (Chris) and Adell Smithers (Lewis), special friend, Freda W. Clark, one aunt, Addie S. Terrell, nieces, nephews, devoted cousins Robert Terrell and Ertell Lee, and a host of other family and friends.
The family would also like to especially thank Christopher Ross, Kirk Terrell, Tomeeka Toliver, Linda Conover and Earl Robinson for their support and kindness during his extended illness
