On Sunday
morning November 22, 2015, Robert "Ed" Davis, slipped peacefully into the arms of Jesus at his home, with his son/caregiver Kenneth by his side. Ed was the youngest of eight children born to the late Luncie and Ida Davis on April 30,1927 in Ruther Glen, Virginia. He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings Callie,Luncie Jr. Bernard, Leonard, Ann, Gladys, and Laura. He attended Point Eastern School and later worked as a laborer. He was employed for over 40 years at Flippo lumber yard in Doswell. As a young man Ed married Christine "Lottie" Davis (deceased). From their union Alphonso (deceased), Clinton, Robert (deceased), and Kenneth were born.
Ed enjoyed helping others whenever he saw an opportunity and was known for giving and doing good throughout the community, for young and old. A life-long member of St. Luke Baptist Church, Ed was a dedicated parishioner and also served as a deacon for many years. He was proud to have his son Kenneth as his Pastor for the past 8 years. He faithfully attended
Sunday
School, worship services, and Bible Study until his health began to fail. Affectionately known as "Papa D" and "Pop" to many, Ed enjoyed talking and visiting with family and friends, attending church, family gatherings, and social events. For many years he enjoyed going to Nascar races with his faithful friends Charles and Donald Dodson. A sharp dresser, Ed also took pride in his yard, his garden, his cars and trucks, and his Christmas lights. He especially enjoyed spending time and providing care to his beloved son Clint. After the passing of his wife Lottie, Ed married Vandelia J. Davis (deceased). The couple enjoyed outings, shopping, family gatherings, and trips to Virginia Beach and Reedville.
Ed enjoyed life and he enjoyed people. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, deacon, brother, uncle, and friend, Ed leaves to cherish his memory devoted sons Kenneth (Paulette) Davis and Clinton Davis, granddaughter Kimberly Davis, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Special friends Phil and Louise Brown, Robert Fields, and devoted caregivers Linda Green and Henrietta Rock.
