Robert Arthur
Thorpe, Sr.
August 25, 1948 – November 11, 2022
Robert A. Thorpe, Sr., was born to the late Nathaniel Thorpe, Sr., and Lillian Victoria Thorpe on August 25, 1948, in Louisburg, NC. He departed this earthly life on Friday, November 11, 2022.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his sister Linda Thorpe Watson, and his step grandson Paul Crawford.
He attended North Carolina Public Schools, graduating from Booker T. Washington High School in 1966. He then moved to Washington, DC, where he was drafted in the Army, and attended American University. He purchased his own Big Rig and owned his own Trucking Company. He then worked for the United States Postal Service for many years retiring in 2010. Robert loved Jazz Music and always annually attended the Hampton and Capital Jazz Festivals. He was very stylish and loved to talk (oftentimes having a whole conversation on your voice mail). Rob loved to tell and hear a good story that would often elicit his hearty laugh to the point of tears coming from his eyes. He loved to travel, enjoyed getting together with old classmates at the reunions, talking and spending time with his brothers, the fried turkey and Thanksgiving visits with BT and Irene, and cooking (especially on the grill and "his greens"). One thing everyone can say, is he was a man that did everything in his own timing. He didn't rush whether it was in sports where he gained the nickname "Loaf", talking, or walking. Robert was passionate and didn't fear a spirited conversation or debate. He had an affinity for Cadillacs, enjoyed Miller Lite, VSOP, Winston cigarettes, and the soaps on CBS in his later years. Being an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, he loved sports. He was proud of the no hitter he pitched in his senior year of high school and coached little league Baseball for many years. He was a Mason with Lord Hannibal Lodge #327.
Robert leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 28 years Linda Shelton Thorpe; beloved daughter Randi (Baby Duck) Thorpe, and his beloved son Robert (RT) Thorpe Jr.; two step children Robert Johnson III and Kesha Johnson; three step grandchildren LaJasia (Boogie), AJ (Ladybug), and RJ (Doobie) Johnson; one sister Ann Thorpe; six brothers Albert (Gwendolyn), Nathaniel, Jr. (Beatrice), Barry (Irene), Dennis, and Todd Thorpe; brother-in-law William Watson; one beloved niece ViQuan Bartee, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.
