Obituary

Robert Edward Vincent, born on February 23, 1943, in Alabama, was the beloved son of Mattie Vincent, who preceded him in passing. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Timothy Hines, Carl Vincent, Joan Hines, Joseph Hines, and Anita Hines. He leaves behind his only surviving sister, Doris Saunders King, along with a host of nieces and nephews who were blessed to know his presence, his wisdom, and his love. Although he did not have children of his own, his legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the lessons he shared, and the family he quietly helped guide.

He built a life rooted in hard work and discipline. Beginning his career with the New York Transit on December 28, 1970, he showed up every single day with purpose. He believed in doing the job right. He retired on July 1, 1995, but the values he lived by never retired. He would often say, "You don't go to work for friends, you go there to work." And that was who he was: committed, dependable, and focused.

Beyond his work, he was a man of deep passion and curiosity. He loved trains; not just casually, but with a true appreciation that brought him joy throughout his life. Whether it was visiting the train store in Ashland, Virginia, or simply talking about them, trains were more than a hobby; they were a part of who he was. He also had a love for music. He taught himself how to play the guitar. Oldies but goodies and jazz filled the spaces of his life with rhythm and soul. If you ever sat with him long enough, you knew that you were sitting with a walking library. History, politics, current events-he knew it all. He could speak on just about anything, and he did so with confidence and clarity.

What truly made him special was his character. He helped his family and friends without ever needing recognition. He never boasted or bragged; he just showed up because that is how much family and friends meant to him. He didn't express his love by being "mushy" or emotional, but if you knew him, you felt it. You could feel it in the time he gave, and in the energy, he poured into being present. His love was steady, quiet, and real. There was also his laugh, which was contagious and unforgettable. It filled rooms and brought people together, especially during family gatherings he cherished. He lived a life of principle, of humility, and of purpose. He showed us that love doesn't always have to be loud to be powerful; integrity matters, showing up matters, and family matters.

Today, as we mourn our loss, we celebrate his life, the lessons he taught, the values he lived by, and the memories he left behind. If we carry anything forward, let it be this: to love through our actions, to stand firm in our responsibilities, and to always make time for the people who matter most, just as he did.

Rest peacefully. Your life made a difference, and your legacy will live on in all of us.
