Obituary

Roderick "Roddie" C. Winston, age 73, of Deltona, Florida, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026. He was born on July 17, 1952, to parents, Claudie and Rosa Winston of Louisa County, Virginia.

Roddie and his family moved to Harlem, New York where he was raised into adulthood. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized at Mount Olivet Baptist Church in New York City.

After graduating from high school, Roddie began his career at Chase Bank. After 13 years in banking, he transitioned to a new path and began working with the MTA as a bus driver. Roddie spent 20 years driving through the busy streets of New York City, combining his love of driving with his passion for connecting with people.

In 1973, Roddie met the love of his life, Debra Ray, in Harlem, New York. They married in 1975 and were blessed with two children, Roderick and Tiffany Winston.

In 2005, Roddie retired and devoted his time to traveling, building his dream home with Debra in Deltona, Florida, and creating lasting memories with his grandchildren.

Roddie was a jovial man with an unforgettable laugh. His big smile would brighten up any room he entered. Louisa County was his second home, and he would travel there as often as possible to spend time with his family and friends. One of his biggest passions, since childhood, was constructing model cars and trucks. It was a passion he shared with his brothers. He also enjoyed swimming with his grandchildren and going to amusement parks. In his younger days, he was an avid basketball player.

Roddie was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Debra; his parents, Claudie and Rosa; his sister, Cheryl Nelson; his brother, Michael Winston; and his twin brother, Reginald Winston.

Roddie leaves to cherish his memory, one son, Roderick and his partner, Tarah Bolden; one daughter, Tiffany; six grandchildren, David, Tiahra, Janoah, Torah, Gabriel, and Taleah; one sister, Joan Claudette Gaston; one aunt, Evelyn Kelley; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
