Obituary

On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, after a hospital stay, the heavenly gates opened to welcome our precious husband, son, father, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend Roy Mayo Shelton IV, affectionately known as "Rick". Rick was born on May 13, 1968, in Richmond, VA to the late Roy Mayo Shelton III, and Bessie Jones Shelton.

Rick attended Patrick Henry High School and graduated in 1987. There he enjoyed athletics. He played basketball, baseball and football. He was an exceptional athlete with MVP honors and received many other accolades. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corp., and was stationed in Los Angeles, California. He then began a career as a Truck Driver (tractor trailers) working for companies such as Cox, New England Motor Freight, FEDEX Freight. After moving to VA Beach with his wife, he was currently employed by FEDEX Ground in Hampton, VA where he served as a supervisor. He loved his job and was always hardworking and dedicated.

Rick was full of life, love, joy and fun to be around. He had a brilliant smile, infectious laugh, and humor that lit up any room. He had so many gifts. He was thoughtful, kind, generous, humorous, hardworking, helpful, and humble. He had a profound impact on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Rick was a devoted member of Ashland Christian Center. He loved serving faithfully, joyfully, and diligently. He assisted with the media ministry, served as an Usher and Security. He brightened the church with his laughs and friendly demeanor and was a joy to all.

Rick enjoyed the company of family and friends, sharing good times and laughter. He enjoyed watching movies and sports, fishing, and listening to rock band music.

He leaves to cherish his memory; his loving wife Karen A. Shelton, mother Bessie Shelton, (3) children - Roy Mayo Shelton V, Cierra Shelton, Kyrese Falke, and (2) bonus children - Brielle and Danielle Muriel from his current marriage. (2) sisters - Debbie Edwards (Edgar C. Edwards Jr. "EC"} and Shireen Rivera (Carlos); (1) aunt - Lillie Pearl Shelton, (1) great aunt – Ann Mines, (2) uncles - Elmer Jones and Kenneth Bettis; nieces and nephews Charles "Wesley" (Stephanie), Eleana Figueroa (Ray), Jasmine, Austin, Evan, great nieces and nephews Zaila, Makaio, Zabella and Raynaldo III "Tray", Jaylin, Aniya; in-laws James and Brenda Keene, brother-in-law Edwin Keene (Cassandra), bonus aunts Jacqueline Lawrence & Beverly Abad; bonus cousins, Kimberly Lawrence, DJ, Khalil; devoted friend Emanuel "Scoop" Holman and a host cousins and friends.

Precious memories of Rick will sustain us until we are reunited with him in the presence of the Lord. We love him and will miss him dearly, but we know God has it in control.
