The Life of Sarah B. Houchens

A Time To Be Born

Sarah Bell Houchens, the third of ten siblings was born on October 22, 1946 to the late Otho Leon Jackson and Daisy Tyler-Jackson in Louisa, Virginia.

A Time To Grow

Sarah was educated in the Louisa County Public Schools. She accepted Christ, was baptized and became a faithful member of Mt. Gilliam New Site Baptist Church.  Later, she joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church by letter.  Her Mt. Zion church affiliations included President of the Usher Ministry, Young Adult Sunday School teacher, Hospitality Committee member, singer on the Gospel, Sanctuary and 5th Sunday choirs, and member of the Women's Ministry.

A Time To Love

On January 25, 1962, Sarah married her high school sweetheart Harvie L. Houchens. They enjoyed 58 loving years of marriage and were blessed with four children within their union.

A Time To Rest

On August 26, 2020 Sarah gained her eternal wings and was called home to be with The Lord.  Preceding her in death are her parents, Otho and Daisy Jackson; her son, Anthony Houchens; her brother, Kenneth Jackson; and her grandson, Andrew Duncan. She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Harvie L. Houchens; three children, Richard, Andrea and Derrick; nine grandchildren, Ashley, Anthony Jr. (Lynette), Domonique, Ericka, Eric, DalQoun, Nynah, Javion and Anthony; ten great grandchildren; seven sisters, Hazel (Grant), Thelma (Donell), Edna, Mattie (James), Sally, Linda (Archie), and Irene; two brothers, Howard (Artie) and Lester (Bernice); her Mentor Ms. Ceola Wright; two best friends, Adelle (Claudie) and Mary (Richard), a host of nieces and nephews; and a church family of whom she loved dearly.
