Obituary

Stanley Leroy Ferguson, the second of nine siblings born on Thanksgiving Day November 28,1929, to William Arthur and Ida Mae Ferguson in Caroline County, VA.  He was a devoted servant of God, a loving father, grandfather and friend, who peacefully transitioned from earthly life into eternal rest. Born with a strong spirit and a heart rooted in faith, Leroy lived a life that reflected his love for the Lord and his commitment to family. Quiet in manner and humble in spirit, he lived with gentle strength and unwavering faith.

From a young age, Leroy moved at his own steady pace. One of his greatest passions was music, especially playing the Guitar, day and night. His favorite musician was Louis Armstrong, and his older brother affectionately gave him the nickname "Louie". To others, he was known as Brookhouse. He found joy in listening to his favorite tunes and creating music of his own.

After Graduating from Union High School, Leroy met a young woman who captured his heart, Laura Mae Woolfolk and soon thereafter were united in marriage. Leroy later served his country in the U.S. Army and the National Guard, receiving honorable discharges from both.

Upon returning home, his family grew, and life required a quicker pace. Leroy never cared for farm work and did his best to steer clear of it. Instead, he worked at Gwalthney Service Station, Jerrell Truck Center in Ruther Glen, VA, and later with the General Services Administration in Springfield, VA, where he eventually retired after 30 years of service.

Leroy was a man of strong Christian faith who trusted fully in the Lord. He loved attending church, serving faithfully with the Willing Workers alongside his wife, and singing with the men's choir. Although he did not have many opportunities to teach, he proudly considered himself a "Bible genius". He remained devoted to church until his health declined. In his later years, while homebound, he maintained his cheerful spirit and found enjoyment watching Sanford & Son on television.

He was the proud and loving father of five children: Deloris Johnson (Randolph); Robert Ferguson (Debra); Shirley Thornton (Winston); Lisa Ferguson, and Donnell Ferguson (Angela) all of Ruther Glen, VA. His legacy continues through his 28 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, each of whom he loved dearly and cherished beyond measure. He also fostered two sons Jeffery Henderson of Fredericksburg, VA. and Reginald Henderson (Deceased).

He leaves behind three sisters: Lona Ferguson of Dale City, VA., Elizabeth Johnson and Mildred Rollins of Ruther Glen, VA.; two sisters-in-law, Helen Samuels and Yvonne Sims of Ruther Glen, VA.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to his devoted caregivers, Kathy Foster, Michelle Morris, Mone't Ferguson, Dashawn Jones, and Dan Walker, whose compassion, dedication and care meant so much during his time of need.

His impact on the lives he touched will be cherished forever. Though Leroy has departed this life, we rejoice in the promise found in John 14:1-3 reminding us to let not our hearts be trouble, for in our Fathers house are many mansions. We take comfort in knowing that he now rests in the arms of the Lord. Another soldier has gone on to receive his great reward. He fought the good fight and kept the faith.
