Obituary

Ms. Sue Rose Overton, 88, of Doswell, VA, departed this life on Saturday, December 4, 2021.  She was born on March 7, 1933 to the late William F. King and Blanche L. King.  She attended Hanover County Public Schools and graduated as Salutatorian from John M. Gandy High School.

Sue accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church where she served faithfully as long as her health allowed. She was a member on the following ministries at EBC:  Sunday school teacher, Hospitality committee, Missionary, choir and the Christmas Play Director for many years.
She worked at the Ashland Shirt Factory, Safeway, and retired from Best Products where she was employed for several years.  Sue didn't have an easy life but she was blessed immensely, highly favored, and loved by so many people.  Sue was a woman of strength and determination, kind, and wise.  Her faith was so encouraging and inspiring.  Even with sickness, her faith never wavered, she continued to pray for people and her children. Always being grateful for God's love and endless grace.
Sue also loved to travel.  She would ride, fly, or jump on a plane to go with her girls anywhere.  Her favorite vacation was the trip to Israel, "Following the Footsteps of Jesus" tour.  There she received the honor to be named "Ambassador of Good Will for Israel" and recognized as a true friend of Israel.
Lastly, but far from being the least, Sue was an astonishing and admirable mom.  She was gentle and very stern when she had to be. But most of all she became their confidant, prayer warrior, and closest friend.  Sue will forever remain in their heart and soul.
Mid-day on December 4, 2021, God reached down and picked another one of his beautiful flowers from his garden.  Sue leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughters, Simone Thomas and Deneen Overton.  Three sisters, Marion Carter (Jethro), LaVerne Jones (Thaddeus), and Blanch Morris (John).  Two sister-in-laws, Helen King and Robnette King;  brother-in-law Rev. Warren Lewis.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, William, Joseph, Henry, Eldridge, and Mitchell; three sisters, Catherine Derricott, Lillie Lewis, and Gloria Jean White.
