Thelma Ann
Derricott
June 16, 1929 – March 20, 2021
Mrs. Thelma Ann Warwick Derricott, was born on June 16, 1929, the second daughter of Willie B. Warwick and Estelle Freeman Warwick in Ashland, VA. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph Payton Derricott, a sister Dorothy Mae Brackenridge, a son Irving Derricott, and one grandchild Tony Jerome Derricott, Jr.
Thelma Ann grew up and attended a one room school house in Gum Tree, VA. She was brought to Oxford Mount Zion Baptist Church at the tender age of 4 years old. At the age of 20, she was the youngest member to be admitted in the Senior Choir in 1949. She was also on the church Floral Ministry for many years with two other ladies and has continued to be a faithful member of church family for past 87 years.
She met Joseph Derricott from Caroline County, VA and married on November 18, 1949. They moved to Glen Allen, VA to begin their family and start a business. Together they raised five sons, while operating Joe' Auto Service of Richmond. They both shared the responsibility of raising their sons. While Thelma handled all the administrative aspects of the business, Joe handled the car repairs. The sons grew up and the business thrived for over 30 years until they retired in 1983. Their favorite past time was travelling by car across various states.
Left to cherish her memories are her devoted children Frank Derricott (Renee') of Glen Allen, VA, Tony Derricott of Ashland, VA, Virgil Derricott (Rene') of Charles City, VA and Steven Derricott of Ashland, VA; one sister-in-law Claire Derricott; twelve grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
During her lifetime she was also blessed to have developed a close and deep friendship with Joan Hampton (niece) of Temple Hills, Maryland, Harold and Louise (Lou) Freeman (cousins) of Caroline County, VA, and Cynthia Hudson of Bowling Green, VA.
