Obituary

On January 2, 2024, our hearts were deeply interrupted when our loved one, Toya Evette Watkins Cary slipped into the arms of Jesus and went home to be with our Lord and Savior.

Toya was the fifth child and youngest daughter of Mr. Wilbur "Toy" and Mrs. Delores S. Watkins.  She was preceded in death by her father, Wilbur "Toy" Watkins; brothers, Ronnie Watkins and Wilbur "Tony" Watkins, III; and her eldest son, Corey C. Watkins.  In her early years, she attended Hanover County Schools and graduated from Patrick Henry High School in Ashland.  Following high school, she worked at CareMark for a number of years before following her calling at the Henrico County Sheriff's Department, there she moved through several divisions before being promoted to the rank of Sergeant.  She ended her career with Henrico County and was hired as a lieutenant for the City of Richmond.  Because of her strong leadership abilities, she was soon promoted to the rank of Captain of Security where she retired as a Captain in 2016.

Toya had an avid love for "old school" music, helping others, and sharing her love of cooking.  She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, which included family game nights, family vacations, and cooking family meals, almost daily.  Toya also shared her passion for cooking and serving others with her church family at First Baptist Church Elmont, where she also held the title of Head of Hospitality.

She leaves to treasure her life and legacy, her husband of 33 years, Johnny Cary; daughter, LaToya Cary (Justin); son, Brandon Cary (Monica); granddaughters, Bria Watkins, Cayla Watkins, and Londyn Cary; daughter-in-law, Brandi Watkins; mother, Delores Watkins; devoted niece, LaTiffany Samuels; devoted nephew Kassidi Samuels; devoted best friend, Stacey Bagby; two sisters, Lorie Lewis (Cecil), and Robin Moore (Tim); two brothers, Vincson Watkins, and Keith Watkins (Crystal); father and mother-n-law, James and Vernell Cary; two sisters-in-law, Vanessa Adams and Jacqueline Miller (Michael); one brother-in-law Darryl Cary (Cheryl); two aunts, Beverly Oxendine and Laura Howard; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
