Obituary

Valerie Alease Mines Few, affectionately known as "Val" "Vari" and "CooCoo" departed this life on Wednesday, March 6, 2024.

Born on August 6, 1964, to the late Australia (Slick) and Mary Catherine Mines.

Valerie accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Dawn Va., where she served as an active member of the Little Light Society and Usher Board.

Valerie received her education from Caroline County Public Schools; a graduate of the class of 1982. In 1985, she united in marriage, and from that union, she welcomed three beautiful children, whom she cherished.  Valerie worked at NATO America for 20 years, before transitioning to employment at Hanover County Public Schools (Hanover High School) for an additional 20 plus years, and most recently she began working with Oasis Management. Valerie never met a stranger and gained many lifelong friends throughout her career.

During her mother Mary Catherine's brief illness, Valerie rose to the call of duty and dropped everything to become her primary caregiver. Oftentimes putting the needs of her mother and family members above her own. She was truly an angel here on earth.

Valerie's smile was infectious and she had a heart of pure gold, she could light up every room she entered and was truly the life of the party. Valerie adored exuding radiance and glamour she could often be seen in something shimmery or fringy at family events, holidays, or parties. She was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers Fan and was passionate about the rapper Snoop Dogg. Val found joy in dancing, laughing, and sitting out on the porch with her girls. Vari loved the holidays and would annually host celebrations for her family and friends.  All were welcomed. She also enjoyed spending time with her six grandchildren who affectionately called her "CooCoo."

She leaves her endless memories with her three loving children, Gayron (Big Dogg), Catherine (Lala), and Brittaney Few. Six grandchildren Gabrielle, London, Gayron (Bruh), Blessn', Ryan, and Milan Few. Devoted Aunts Viola Ross, Thelma Smithers, Garnetta Lucas, Marion Harris, and Evelyn Anderson. Two Uncles John (Gloria) and Ernest (Cleo) Anderson. Seven sisters and brothers in Love devoted Cheryl Twisdale. Five nephews, six nieces, a special son in love Delonte Morris, and a host of other relatives, and friends; devoted cousins more like sisters Diana Green, Anita Hill, Ruth Quash, and Velma Harris.
