Virginia Harris
Gregory
December 2, 1925 – October 21, 2020
"Finish thy work, then rest; Till then, rest never. The rest for thee by God, is Rest Forever."
On Wednesday, October 21, 2020, Virginia Harris Gregory departed this life at her home, 29078 Gregory Road, Ruther Glen, Virginia. She was born December 2, 1925 in Caroline County to the Late Bennie and Birty Peatross Harris. She was raised in a nurturing family of five brothers and five sisters.
Virginia was educated in the Caroline County Public School System. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined the First Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. She sang with the Senior Choir for many years, until declining health.
Virginia was united in Holy Matrimony to the Late Howard William Gregory on March 15, 1945. To this union six children were born. She was a stay at home mother, taking care of her children.
Virginia's life, as well as the lives of her family and friends became enriched by her hobbies which included cooking and gardening. Virginia was a quiet, humble woman, one who rarely raised her voice to anyone. When it came to discipline, she would tell her children, "Wait until Howard gets home."
Virginia will be remembered as a loving mother, the best grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend. In addition to her husband and two sons, Howard Monroe and Sherman she was preceded in death by her sisters, Maude Carter, Mary Liza Booker, Addie Bell Johnson, Carrie and Birty Jean Harris; brothers, Bennie Jr., Elmore, Henry (Boot Jack), and Cleveland (Fat Back) Harris.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Gloria Chappell and Carol (Charles) Brown; two sons, Gordon (Elaine) and Ronald (Hattie Anne) Gregory; one brother, Deacon Curtis Harris, Sr.; 10 grandchildren, Shelbert (Maurice) Gregory, Gregory Brown, Corey (Elizabeth) Pleasants, Rachel (Thomas) Stuckley; Hope Chappell, April (Bruce) Givens, Avery (Latoya) Gregory, Casey (Timothy) Garnett, Edward Chappell and Tremain Gregory; 28 great grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, one brother-in-law, Lawrence (Veronica) Gregory and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
C. Wooten and Kendra Rice of Hospice of Virginia, we the family remember and thank you for your respect, loving care and support you rendered to our Mother.
