Obituary

Virginia Ellen Smith effectually known as "Dendy", transitioned from labor to reward and took her eternal rest on Sunday, January 16, 2022, at her home. She was born Sept. 7, 1934, to the late Mary and Joseph Goodyear Sims. She is the last of 11 siblings to take her rest.

She attended the McDuff Elementary School and Union High School in Caroline County, Virginia. In 1950, she met and married Earnest Foster who preceded her in death in March of 1969. She loved cooking and showing others how to cook. She was the lead cook at Jarrell's Truck Plaza, Best Western Hotel at Kings Dominion and St. Joseph's Villa for many years from which she retired.

On June 20, 1970, she was united in marriage to Jeremiah E. Smith, and to this union a family of ten was formed.

She began her walk with the Lord at Jericho Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor C.C. Dickerson and Rev. Richard Williams. In 1976, she joined the St. Mark Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the late Superintendent Clarence Dunlap. She served under the leadership of the late Shepherd Mother Mary King at Emmanuel Temple Church of God in Christ for a number of years and following the homegoing of Superintendent Clarence Dunlap, she continued her membership under the leadership of the late Pastor Samuel Dunlap. Later she joined the Pentecostals Church of Richmond under the leadership of Pastor Joseph Forbush and remained until her departure.

She worked faithfully at whatever she could find to do and was a great hospitality worker. She loved doing things for people and not letting others know that she did it. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and auntie that would give her all and go without so you could have.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jeremiah E. Smith, two sons Earnest and Delwin Foster, her parents Mary and Joseph Sims, her siblings Ellis, Dayton, Eugene, Joseph, Lottie, Grace, Francis, Gwendolyn, Gladys, and Yvonne.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children Alvin Bernard Foster of Richmond, VA, District Missionary Brenda D. Hackett (Elder Tyrone) of Ruther Glen, VA, Melinda K. Patterson (Patrick) of Fredericksburg, VA, Jarrod Smith (Sabrina) of Ruther Glen, VA, Ricky Smith (Sandy) of Ashland, VA, Gilda Newman (Jim) of New York, Debbie Delvalle and Jeremiah I. Smith (Betty) of Ruther Glen, VA, twenty-five grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
