Alfred was born on August 25, 1942, to Rufus and Dorothy Clarke, in Montpelier, VA.  After the passing of both his parents by his teenage years, he was raised in Ashland, VA, by his aunts, Bertha Latney (James) and Elnora Winston (George).  He attended John M. Gandy School in Ashland.  Later in life, he united, was baptized, and became an active member of Shiloh Baptist Church.

Alfred loved the outdoors and watching sports.  His team never lost because he always rooted for the winner.  He was a practical joker and was  known for teasing.  He also loved to eat; Lee's Chicken was his favorite, and he drank coffee 24/7.

Alfred was preceded in death by his father, Rufus Clarke, his mother, Dorothy Clarke, and brother Robert Jackson.  He leaves behind to cherish his fond memories, his children: Rhonda Clarke (Shawn), Kenya Clarke, Donnell Moore, Charmayne Hawthorne, and Sydney Pleasants; Grandchildren: Dernesha, Ja-Forrest, Dion, Brittany, Elijah, Doe-Jon, Damoni, and Ja-Kayla; Sisters, Edna Jackson, Josephine Wyatt (Pete); Brother, Kermit Brown; and 1 devoted sister, Lessie Clarke.

Also, among his devoted family members are: George and Carolyn Winston, George Winston, Jr. (Tasha), George Clarke (Moon) and George's girlfriend Lisa, Sharon Clarke, Wyvetra Clarke, Elnora Timberlake and family, Antoinette Davis, Mary Jones, and Michael Jackson; and other family and friends.
