On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, William Leon Smith went to eternal rest with the Lord. The late Herman and Ann Burley Smith welcomed him into the world on November 24, 1936.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Ann Smith; his brothers, Herman and Jerry; his sons, Anthony, Clifford, Larry, and Tracу.
After discovering Christ, Leon became a trustee and bus driver at Second Mount Zion Baptist Church. For three years, he served as an M.P. in the Army Reserve. He spent 39 years working for the District of Columbia Public School System after completing his schooling there.
He was joined in holy matrimony with Hattie C. Ross for 50 years. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and faithful friend. Leon loved to watch western television shows, drive his 1939 Chevrolet as well as his charter bus. Leon was also a member of the VA. Gentleman Car & Truck Club.
Leon leaves to celebrate his life; his wife, Hattie C. Smith; children, Jeffrey and Beverly (Harvey); twelve grandchildren, Latrice, Jeff, Jemahl, Jovan, Taylor, Jada, Brandon, Lauren, Trasonda, Wykenna, Travon and Tracy; ten great grandchildren, Shadae, Charlie, Jacob, JaMyia, Aliya, Desiree, Jovan Jr., Jasmine, Corey and Andre; two great-great grandchildren, Morgen and Logan; brother, Wesley; daughter-in-law, MaSonda; sisters-in-law, Joann and Betty; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends (devoted) Patricia Robinson and Freddie Dyer.
