Willis Lee Derricott, affectionately known as "Lead," departed this life on March 4, 2026, at the age of 69 in Henrico, Virginia. He was born on November 19, 1956, in Hanover, Virginia, to the late Harvey McKinley Jones and the late Mary "Nanny" Derricott Lincoln.
Willis was educated in the Hanover County Public School system. He was widely respected for his exceptional skill as a master of hardwood flooring installation and restoration. Willis took great pride in his craft, transforming homes with beautiful hardwood floors and restoring worn floors back to life. His dedication, precision, and strong work ethic left a lasting impression on many who knew him and experienced his work.
Willis was admired for his strength, authentic personality, and humor. He shared many memories with those who loved him.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children: Darshae Derricott Dabney (Haywood), Tamika Bankston, Deja Wilkerson, and Aisha Derricott.
He was a proud grandfather to Deja, Davian, and Darian Dabney; Tiffanee Bankston; Kimesha and Jasmine Garland; Jaymeisha, Amaya, and Diamond Bankston Burke; Anthony Thomas; Lashay Hart; Paisleigh Slaughter; Aaron O'joye; Amere Christian Derricott; and Asher Derricott.
He also leaves to cherish his memory his great-grandchildren: Jeriah and Jamez Bankston, Maize Molla, Jah Bankston, Raina Dabney-Troublefield, Ariel and Major Bankston, Messiah Agyemang, and Ja'Kari Terrell.
Willis is also survived by a large and loving family of siblings: Shirley Lincoln, Elaine Stephenson, Marsha Dabney, Wilnette Brown, Jerry Brown, Rex Brown, John Lincoln, James Lincoln, Betty Lincoln Evans, Fannie Lincoln, and Roberta Lincoln Hamilton; Connie Shelton (Clarence), Harvey, Wilbur, and Stuart Jones; Albert and Ray Lewis; Marsha Johnson; Betty Cosby; and Eileen and Torrie Lewis.
Willis Lee Derricott will be remembered for his unmatched work ethic, the pride he took in his craftsmanship, and the deep love he had for his family. Known for his strength and determination, he was a man who could outwork anyone and still make time for those he loved. His legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many lives he touched along the way.
